SSE Airtricity to increase electricity prices by 6.2%

SSE Airtricity has announced that it will increase electricity prices by 6.2% for domestic customers from 1st August 2026.

Over 131,000 SSE Airtricity customers will now see their bills increase at a time when many are still struggling with ‘cost of living’ pressures. See below to find out more about how this price increase will impact on bills.

What does the price increase mean for customers?

As a result of this price increase, a typical SSE Airtricity customer will see their bill rise by £72 per year to around £1,277.

The increase comes less than a year after SSE Airtricity increased electricity prices by 4%, in November 2025. Taken together, these increases will add further pressure to household energy bills.

SSE Airtricity Gas customers are not affected by this announcement. In fact, SSE Airtricity gas prices in Northern Ireland reduced in February 2026 – see our Gas Price Blog for more information on this price change.

What have SSE Airtricity said about the increase?

SSE Airtricity supply electricity to roughly 15% of homes in Northern Ireland, making it one of the biggest players in the domestic energy market.

With such a significant share, changes to its prices have a major impact on many households. SSE Airtricity has said that the increase is due to sustained market volatility and higher wholesale electricity costs.

Stephen Gallagher, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity said:

“We understand this is unwelcome news. Increasing our prices is never a decision we take lightly. This is a result of sustained higher wholesale market costs that are outside of our control. We continue to do everything we can for our customers to limit the impact of ongoing volatility in the energy market.”

SSE Airtricity has also encouraged any customers experiencing difficulty with their bills to contact them to discuss the support, payment plans and tariffs available.”

Support if you’re struggling to pay

If you’re finding it difficult to keep up with your energy bills, don’t ignore the problem.

SSE Airtricity has confirmed it offers payment plans and other support options for customers experiencing financial difficulty and encourages anyone concerned about paying their bill to get in touch as early as possible.
