firmus energy drops prices for gas customers

firmus energy customers have finally received the good news they have been waiting for: a price drop on gas costs.

The gas supplier will be reducing its tariffs for customers in the Ten Towns Network area by 20.52% and 17.60 % in the Greater Belfast Network area, from 01 January 2023. This will reduce the average cost by £8.83 per week in Ten Towns and by £7.92 in Greater Belfast. On an annual basis, this will save customers £460 and £410, on average, respectively.

These price reductions, effective 1 January 2023, will coincide with a reduction of the Energy Price Guarantee discount rate for gas customers to 3.9p/kWh.

firmus CEO Niall Martindale said, “firmus energy is pleased to be announcing this price reduction.

“Throughout this challenging period, we committed that as soon as market conditions allowed us to lower our prices we would do so, and today we are pleased to confirm that prices will be reduced from January 2023.”

What does this mean for firmus customers?

  • For customers in the Ten Towns, this means the annual gas bill of a typical household with a credit meter will reduce by about £416.60 per year and customers with a prepayment gas meter (PAYG) will see their typical costs reduce by around £341.52 per year factoring in the new EPG rate.

  • For customers in the Greater Belfast Network, this means the annual gas bill of a typical household with a credit meter will reduce by about £300.20 per year and customers with a prepayment gas meter (PAYG) will see their typical costs reduce by around £294.60 per year factoring in the new EPG rate

I’m a firmus energy customer…what network am I in?

With the difference in price drops by area, you may be wondering which area you fall into.

Northern Ireland is broken into three separate gas networks – these are the Greater Belfast area, the Ten Towns area and the West network area. Each is distinct and will have different suppliers, cost and tariff options.

The Greater Belfast area covers: south, west, east and north Belfast; Carrickfergus; Newtownabbey; Duncrue and Harbour; Lisburn; Carryduff; Castlereagh; Newtownards; Larne; and North Down.

The Ten Towns area includes Derry/Londonderry, Limavady, Coleraine (including Portstewart and Bushmills), Ballymoney, Ballymena (Broughshane), Antrim (including Ballyclare and Templepatrick), Craigavon (including Portadown and Lurgan), Banbridge, Newry (Warrenpoint), Armagh (Tandragee) and more than 25 other towns and villages in the surrounding area.
