Budget Energy to increase electricity prices by 9.5%

Budget Energy is the latest electricity supplier to announce a price increase for their customers.

Northern Ireland’s third largest electricity supplier has confirmed that it will increase tariffs by 9.5% from 4th August 2026.

The increase will apply across Budget Energy’s variable tariffs, including Bill Pay, Pay as You Go (keypad) and Economy 7 tariffs. The daily standing charge is also increasing.

What does the price increase mean for customers?

Budget Energy is Northern Ireland’s third largest electricity supplier, with around 120,000 customers. The 9.5% increase will add around £122 to the annual bill for a typical Bill Pay (credit) customer and £121 for a typical keypad customer. The vast majority of Budget Energy customers, close to 8 in 10, choose a keypad tariff.

The latest increase comes just seven months after Budget Energy increased electricity prices by 4% in January 2026.

If you have signed up to a ‘fixed price’ tariff with Budget Energy, your rate will not change until your contract ends. However, when your fixed-price period ends, you will face the higher rates available at that time.

Anyone struggling to pay their energy bills or top-up their meters should contact their supplier directly as suppliers are best placed offer their customers help and support.

Electricity Prices have been Increasing

Budget Energy is the latest supplier to announce higher electricity prices, with all five electricity suppliers in Northern Ireland having now either increased their tariffs or announced increases.

The latest increase will be a concern for many households, with electricity prices rising across the market just as we move through summer and towards autumn, when darker evenings and colder weather mean energy use typically starts to increase.
