SSE Airtricity has announced that it will increase electricity prices by 4% for domestic customers from 1st November 2025.
Over 143,000 SSE Airtricity customers will now see their bills increase at a time of year when we use most energy in our home. See below to find out more about how this price increase will impact on bills.
What does the price increase mean for customers?
As a result of this price increase, a typical SSE Airtricity customer will see their bills rise by around £45 per year.
This is the first increase in two years and follows a 6.3% decrease in March 2024, and a previous reduction of 7% on 1st November 2023. While the scale of the increase is smaller than the sharp rises seen during the energy crisis, it still adds extra pressure on households as we move into the peak energy-use months of winter. And energy prices still remain much higher than pre-covid levels.
SSE Airtricity Gas customers are not affected by this announcement. In fact, SSE Airtricity gas prices in Northern Ireland have been reduced – see our Gas Price Blog for more information on this price change.
What have SSE Airtricity said about the increase?
SSE Airtricity supplies electricity to roughly 17% of homes in Northern Ireland, making it one of the biggest players in the domestic energy market. With such a significant share, changes to its prices have a major impact on many households. SSE Airtricity has said that the increase is due to higher operation costs and network-related charges.
Stephen Gallagher, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity said:
“We know this news will be disappointing for customers and increasing our prices is always a last resort. We worked hard over the past few years, shielding customers from the full impact of the energy crisis, delivering two price reductions… this price increase comes at a time of rising network and operator costs, which are outside of our control, and continued wholesale volatility which is leading to a higher cost of doing business”.
