SSE Airtricity customers have received some welcome news – a price drop on their electricity costs.
Northern Ireland’s second largest electricity supplier has announced a price decrease of 6.3% for their domestic electricity customers from 1st March 2024.
What does the price decrease mean for customers?
The decrease will be effective from 1st March 2024 and will see around £75 annual savings for a typical customer with a credit/bill pay meter and around £77 savings for a typical customer with a keypad meter*.
The rate decrease will automatically be applied to bills from 1 March so customers will start to see this reduction feed through into their bills from this date.
How have prices been changing?
Without doubt any price decrease is welcome and it will mean savings at a time of year when we tend to use more energy in our homes. This is the second decrease from Northern Ireland’s second largest provider in recent months, with a previous decrease of 7% taking effect in November 2023. So taking these two price decreases together SSE Airtricity customers will see savings of around £170 over the last six months.
However, although moving in the right direction its important to remember that prices are still much higher than a few years ago, SSE Airtricity, like all suppliers, increased prices multiple times since 2021 so bills will remain higher over the winter period. If you are struggling to pay energy bills or top-up you meter make sure to contact your energy supplier in the first instance for help and support
