Boiler Replacement Scheme

The Boiler Replacement Scheme is to help homeowners with the cost of replacing boilers which are at least 15 years old.

To qualify for the Boiler Replacement Scheme, you must…

● Own and occupy your property
● A household income which is less than £40,000 per year; and
● Have a boiler which is at least 15 years old

What level of support (£) is available?
Homeowners who have a boiler which is over 15 years old and inefficient can apply for the Boiler Replacement Allowance. The amount of support available will depend on your household’s income and whether you plan to install controls (which is recommended).

If your household income is less than £20,000 the basic grant is £700. This will increase to £1,000 if you have to install controls as well as a boiler.
If you earn between £20,000 and £40,000 the boiler grant will be £400, rising to £500 if controls need to be installed.

What measures are available?
If you meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme, your boiler can be upgraded from an old gas, LPG or oil-fired boiler to a high efficiency gas, oil or wood pellet fired boiler.

What type of boiler do I need to install?
You need to install a new high efficiency ‘A’ rated condensing type boiler. An efficient, high rated boiler is what you would want to install anyway. You are free to choose your own installer. Where the engineer is working with gas, they must be a registered Gas Safe engineer. If you are installing a new boiler, you must apply to your local council for Building Control approval. The Building Control fee will not be covered by the grant.
