Budget Energy to increase electricity prices by 4%

Budget Energy is the latest electricity supplier to announce a price increase for their customers.

Northern Ireland’s third largest electricity supplier has confirmed that it will increase tariffs by 4% from 15th January 2026.

What does the price increase mean for customers?

The price increase will mean that a typical bill pay (credit) customer will see their annual bill increase by around £47, while a typical keypad (prepay) customer will pay around £46 more per year.

The vast majority of Budget Energy customers, close to 8 in 10, choose a Pay as Go tariff

If you have signed up to a ‘fixed price’ tariff with Budget Energy, your rate will not change until your contract ends.

Anyone struggling to pay their energy bills or top-up their meters to contact their supplier directly as suppliers are best placed offer their customers help and support.

What have Budget Energy said about the increase?

Budget Energy supplies electricity to over 119,000 homes in Northern Ireland, making it a key player in the domestic energy market with around 14% of the market.

With such a significant share, changes to its prices have a major impact on many households. Budget Energy has said that the increase is due to higher operation costs and network-related charges.

This is the first price increase from Budget Energy in over three years (May 2022), and follows two decreases, so prices have been relatively stable following on from covid and the energy crisis.
